Suddenly, there is a social media storm created by some angry customers and Marks & Spencer finds itself right in the middle of it. Various media in the UK and around the world report that “UK retailer faces boycott after report claiming Muslim employees can refuse to serve alcohol and pork.” Celebrity Atheist Richard Dawkins joined in the debate and attacked M&S over this issue.

Last weekend we read on social media about the horrific racist attack on Alminna halal food store in the Cookstown Industrial Estate (Tallaght). The shop was broken into by racist vandals. It was ransacked, looted, doused in petrol and defaced with racist writings on the wall.

There are two main reasons for this. First, the combination of globalisation and war over the last decade or so has generated flows of migration greater, possibly, than at any previous point in human history – in excess, possibly, even of the huge displacement of people caused by the Second World War. Second, the ruling classes in most of the affected countries put it there.

In 2011, everyday thousands of people die by unnatural/ man-made causes.  While the people in Africa may seen to be the victims of a natural disaster, the fact is that Africa has been colonised by western powers and divided and shared among the "white men" who saw themselves as the masters of the African people and many problems we see today in Africa goes back to these days.
