It seems we are going to have another political party led by the former Fine Gael junior minister Lucinda Creighton who is calling for a ‘reboot’ of Ireland. Lucinda Creighton is joined by financial commentator and advisor Eddie Hobbs.

For many years only a small group of people and a few organisations have campaigned for ending the Direct Provision System (DPS). Their voices, along with the voices of asylum seekers were constantly and conveniently ignored by the governments of the past 15 years. Even the demands for some very limited reforms did not trigger any actions by the governments and asylum seekers were simply abandoned in this extremely dysfunctional system.

A few days ago, Ukip leader Nigel Farage was debating the 'immigration issue' as part of a panel on UTV in front of a live audience in the studio. At one point, when he was challenged by other guests on the panel on how the country benefited from immigration and migrants, he replied "the rich liberals in central London benefited from immigration by having cheaper chauffeurs and house maids, the corporations benefited from low-wage workers".

Today is Blair Day on the news... He says "People should listen to my advice on Isis as I have been to war in Iraq before".  He is addicted to invading Iraq. Unless he gets a good dose of it every ten years or so, he can’t function properly. If he doesn’t get his dose, he starts sweating; his hands itch, his stomach rumbles and his eyes go crazy red… You see, like any addiction, his brain starts playing games…  He starts producing arguments to get what he wants.

In a statement Richard Boyd Barrett TD criticised attempts by AIB to change cap on executive pay. The People Before Profit TD said the idea that executives in AIB, a bank that got a bail-out of €21 billion, with an existing pay cap of half a million and executives on six figure salaries are now looking for more money is shocking.

People of Ireland have already been robbed of millions of Euro for the privatization of water and the establishment of the Irish Water company. Before Irish Water has delivered even a drop of clean-safe water, they have flooded us with scandals that continue to cost us millions. For health, education, public transport, even fixing the old and leaking water system there is no money - as we are told repeatedly - but there are millions available for some dodgy consultancy services to tell Irish Water how to rob our free-natural resource from us and how to charge us for this robbery.

Jim Cusack of Irish Independent reports that “the barrister wife of former Fianna Fail minister Barry Andrews received more than a €1m for briefs from the Attorney General's office to fight asylum applications in the past five years.”

If you are rich, powerful, at the top, racist, ruling countries and waging wars, you get to meet Mandela and tell on TV stations how much you ‘love’ him. If you are poor, exploited and oppressed, you fight for the things he fought; against the very same people above, who ‘love’ him so much.

How many private jets are on their way to S. Africa this week?

How many bodyguards will be on duty to protect our elites?

How many seven-course, silver plate dinners will be eaten?

The headline of the Irish Independent (21/10/2013) is screaming at us in big bold letters: “THE SOCIAL WELFARE CULTURE”

Whatever Enda Kenny will do about the social welfare in long term is to be seen, but it seems the first and most important task for the government is to get the society to recognise the 'problem' of our social welfare system.

Bank bailouts, savage attacks on health, education and welfare budgets, cuts to the public sector, wage cuts and extra taxes have devastated the lives of working class people in Ireland.

These austerity policies have also made the economic crisis much worse.

As I started reading the report on thereferendum in the Irish Times, I noticed another item that said: “Fall in house prices accelerating”. Great! Thousands of mortgage holders, who bought a house just to put a roof over their family’s heads, are in further misery.  People who were stuck in a high and speculative investor-driven rental market, people who thought buying a home made sense, have been buried deeper in negative equity - the same people who suffered levies, cuts and job losses for the benefit of banks, builders and bond holders; the very same people whose mortgage debts (real money) to the banks stayed the same while all their income and the value of their homes kept dropping.  Not a few, but thousands of people are at the point of losing their family homes. They can’t sell them, they can’t pay for them but they are now asked to pay another €100 (to begin with) for their homes.

The lines are drawn and borders are set.  These are lines, drawn by the crisis in Europe and the world, between the possessed and the dispossessed, the poor and the rich. The time to stand right in the middle and sit on the fence is over. One has to be either on one side or the other.  The nonsense that we are the children of the same nation, under one flag, walking on the same streets as equals has been exposed with this crisis. This is now the struggle between the hungry and full.

There is a saying in Turkish: "Misafir umdugunu degil buldunu yer" roughly translated as "Visitor don't get served what they want, they get what the host serves"

IMF are not visitor nor they will get just what they want. They will have to face the people who are suffering and protesting against the conditions imposed upon them by IMF/EU and the government.

I read recently, in one of those free newspapers they hand out at train stations, that Victoria Beckham of ‘too posh to push’ fame, was planning to breastfeed her new baby girl.  According to ‘a close friend’, VB wants to do it all naturally this time round (she has three boys all of whom were formula fed).  However, she’s really worried that in spite of her good intentions she will not be able to breastfeed and will fail to be the kind of mother she’d like to be.
