Tony Blair: From War to Racism

Seeing the news headlines on Tony Blair, the first thought that comes to mind is, “Blair to combat anti-Semitism and racism in Europe? It must be a joke!”

Unfortunately, it is true!

Today, as the reactions to the deaths of more than 1100 migrants in two separate incidents continue, we are reading the enthusiastic headlines referring to the EU Joint Foreign and Home Affairs Council meeting and reporting the good news. It seems the EU is finally acting to bring an end to this crisis.

One detail about the council meeting is repeated in many of the news reports: “[EU] Ministers held a minute's silence before proceedings got under way”.

The US led airstrikes in Syria and Iraq seem to have little or no real impact on ISIS. Since the beginning of the airstrikes a number of civilians and some ISIS fighters are killed but the overall organizational structure and the fighting capacity of ISIS are intact. We are told by the US administration and the leaders of states who joined the coalition that “they will continue the airstrikes till ISIS is destroyed”.

Today is Blair Day on the news... He says "People should listen to my advice on Isis as I have been to war in Iraq before".  He is addicted to invading Iraq. Unless he gets a good dose of it every ten years or so, he can’t function properly. If he doesn’t get his dose, he starts sweating; his hands itch, his stomach rumbles and his eyes go crazy red… You see, like any addiction, his brain starts playing games…  He starts producing arguments to get what he wants.

If you ever want to teach your children the meaning of the word hypocrisy look no further than our great business and political leaders... And think of wars, exploitation, workers rights, equality, imperialism and racism...

Antioch, the ancient land within Turkey's border that stretches out into Syria, is a place I went to many times. I fell in love with the place, its people and its complex and multi-cultural history. When you reach the seashore of Seleucia Pieria you are in all places at the same time, divided by modern borders: Syria, Turkey and the Mediterranean Sea. The struggles of Antioch of the past are shining a light to the struggles in the region today...

Today, on 5th of August, the biggest and most significant court case - ERGENEKON - in Turkey, against illegal (obviously) military coup gang and counter-insurgency network, handed down huge sentences after a lengthy and complicated trial process.

NOT ENOUGH BUT YES!

It was the year of 1998, the former Chilean military dictator, mass murderer and torturer Pinochet had arrived to UK, a country that he called his “most favoured country in the world”. No wonder why he would choose Britain as his favourite place. He was kept there under a very comfortable house arrest, effectively under the protection of the British government. Court trials, endless diplomatic debates and meetings with his favourite person, Thatcher, kept Pinochet in Britain safe and well until he was allowed to return to Chile in 2000 and to die in his comfortable military hospital bed some years later.

I’d like to consider myself a human. Nothing more and nothing less. But that is not the case if you happen to be born as a baby girl. Than you’re not just a human. You’re a woman. While I reckon all living things to be equal, this species of animal we call human has two subgenres. Women and men. Which are somehow thought to be completely different. One needs to state that they’re equal over and over. And need to put up a fight to be equal every single day. If she’s lucky enough to be in a society where she’d be allowed to speak up her mind. I’d say if any group of people are told to be “equal” with the rest, it’s clear as daylight that equality is nowhere in the equation. And the ones with the power to speak, the power to decide who stands where, can, one day stand up and say what you’re and you’re not allowed to do and that would be quite just according to them. And you, as equal and as precious you migt be in their holiday statements, would not have a single thing to say about the matter.
