The two separate Europes

There are two separate and irreconcilable Europes that can’t live together.

Their capital cities are not divided by rivers only…

One has a bloody history, full of lies; the other is the history of confronting these…

One has been making war, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people, the other is saying “No to war!”

One is old; the other is only young…

One shuts the borders to refugees, counting the number of deaths; the other shouts “Open the borders!”

One is racist, the other is fraternal…

One is pure white; the other is full of rainbow colours…

One subjects 1 in three women to physical, sexual violence, the other fights for abortion rights…

One is the dictate of markets and money; the other is about true democracy…

One uses flags for competition, marking the borders and nationalism, the other as a symbol of international solidarity…

One is the Europe of the rich; the other is the continent of the poor, the unemployed, the workers…

One is capitalist; its religion is money, the other prays for each other, wants to share the wealth…

One exploits the other…

One lives in palaces, the other is homeless…

One is barbarism, the other is hope…

One has the state, the law, the media and the police, the other has the city squares…

One is forcing the other to tighten their belts; the other is clenching their teeth...

One is minority, the other in their millions…

One can’t rule anymore, the other doesn’t want to be ruled…

The referendum in Greece isn’t just the head-on clash of ‘Berlin-Brussels-Paris’ vs. Athens, but a moment when these two Europes step into the ring…

One calls for a YES; a yes to barbarism, economic terror, poverty and unemployment, the other for a NO, to all of these…

...

In the long run the issue won’t be the ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ outcome of the Greek referendum but the division among these two Europes.

And the job of us Europeans on the ‘other side’ is clear: To widen this divide… till the good, humanitarian, social and anti-capitalist Europe smashes the dark, decaying, barbaric, capitalist Europe…

To say “Oxi!” is a strong punch in this fight…
