Racist, memory-less, ridiculous EU advert: Growing Together

The 'sexy' EU versus the 'ugly' others, surrounding it

The 'sexy' EU vs. the 'ugly' others, surrounding it...

“The European commission has been forced to withdraw a high-budget video promoting the EU amid accusations that it depicts other cultures in a racist manner. A row broke out after the enlargement directorate of the European commission, which is responsible for the expansion of the EU, released a video clip that was designed to appeal to young voters.”  - The Guardian (Full Article)

Have a look at the video (link below), that seemingly cost the taxpayer EUR 127,000 to make. I am not sure which rocket scientist came up with this idea but, it is obvious that it did not work. I have a better title for this video: ‘Sinking Together - and the bondholders have all the life boats' .

European commission is trying to promote a ‘beautiful’ side of EU to the very same people it is imposing upon vicious austerity measures. This video is published at a time when EU is threatening  Irish people with the consequences of a NO vote in the forthcoming Austerity referendum and suffocating people of Greece etc with endless cutbacks and job losses. Furthermore, the same EU headquarters are interfering with the democracy of member states by replacing heads of governments with bureaucrats assigned by the HQ.

This is a ‘good cop, bad cop’ game, played by propaganda and fiscal chiefs of EU.

It would have been a brilliant video if the three ‘bad’ guys were the troika of bond holders, bankers and IMF representatives against the people of Europe. But then we need to remember a few things about EU before we wish for such things.

·         Of the total global arms sales in 2010 (465,510 Million USD), 30% were manufactured and sold by EU countries. (See Full Report). Among the many customers of these weapons were Gaddafi of Libya and Mubarak of Egypt.

·         We all know very well, the illegal wars and occupations, based on lies and propaganda, that EU countries are/were involved in the past ten years. These wars killed thousands of civilians and cost billions of Euros. Afghanistan (2001 – present): UK, Germany, Italy, France, Poland, Romania, Spain. Iraq (2003 – 2011, present): UK, Poland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain. One should also remember the use civilian Shannon Airport for military flights.

What should make us think that EU and EU foreign policy is a peaceful and non-military one? Nothing…

What makes us think that everyone else, especially if they are non-European looking, are the ‘bad guys’ and EU needs to be strong to defend all the nice things like human rights, peace, and prosperity?
Nothing...

What outcome of Lisbon Treaty (with the slogans “Yes for strong, prosperous and safe Europe”, “Yes for jobs and solidarity”) has made Europe a better place for ordinary people?
None... People of Ireland were scared into voting yes for a treaty that further militarized Europe among many other measures.

Yes, we need a strong Europe…

·         Strong against war, racism and discrimination…

·         A strong Europe against austerity…

·         A strong Europe against militarization...

·         A welfare Europe, not a warfare one…

·         A Europe, with open borders…

·         A Europe that is under the democratic control of people instead of the economic dictatorship of unelected powerful bureaucrats…

·         A strong Europe against anti-democratic interventions in sovereign (member) nations…

·         A strong Europe with strong solidarity among people. A solidarity within Europe and with others.

I wonder how a video of the above points would look like?

Every other form of Europe is just not sexy. However many videos are made...
